Women participation in the mining sector in the Gambia is minimal, hence WIM GAMBIA, which is recently registered in the Gambia, is ready to bring together women working in the mining sector, oil and gas, and other extractive industries in the country, and serve as an advocacy group for them. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the launching of the association is postponed until lockdown measures are relaxed. Some of the proposed activities for 2020 are listed below:

1. Official launching of the association

2. Introduction of the association to Mining Authorities and Ministry of Petroleum & Energy

3. Mobilization and workshop for ASM Women in the mining sector

4. Mining site visits

The Gambia has deposits of lower value minerals such as laterite, titanium, rutile, ilmenite, tin, Zircon and silica sand; successful mining of glass and quartz sand deposits for valuable minerals has been carried out. The Country also explores oil and gas both onshore and offshore.
